The new office.

5 07 2007

Well, the new office will take some getting used to.  They have all of us shoved into a space 1/2 the size of what is really acceptable.  We’ll deal with it, but, there is no ventilation to speak of, and the carpeting is new, so we are enjoying the wonderful “new carpet” smell.  I left work with a terrible headache today.  I rode my bike home in the sun.  that seemed to make my headache worse (of course it did).

I popped a couple analgesics, and decided, against my body telling me not to, to go out and get a run in.  I got out about 1 1/2 miles, and my stomach said “Go Home…NOW!”. OK.  I listened to it.  Glad I did.  I just made in the door when my body decided to protest it’s mistreatment. :)

We’ll try the run again tomorrow.  I’ll make sure I take plenty of breaks at work tomorrow to get out of the work area to get fresh air!

Sorry to hear you had a bad day. That sucks that work has screwed up the new office. But since I’ve been on the side of management trying to do a move to a new place, I guess I can’t throw any stones.

Glad you still have your good spirits about you. And good luck with tomorrow!

New carpet off-gassing is absolutely horrible. I’m not surprised you got sick.

There are those who would have you believe its not a problem: http://www.buildings.com/Articles/detail.asp?ArticleID=1433
(Of course, if you don’t have ventilation, most of this argument goes out the door. Also, I have a niece with serious “not-yet-gonna-name-the-problem-asthma-because-she-might-outgrow-it” issues. If she’s in a carpeted area, she’s like a canary in a coal mine. The steroid treatment machine goes into overtime work for her in new off-gassing places.)

Anyway, here’s some useful info on helping with off-gassing: http://www.globalgreen.org/pha-energytoolbox/tech_flooring.htm .

I hope you can get some ventilation going in there! Breathe fresh air deeply while you can & take lots of outdoor breaks if that place is making you sick!

I just wrote a long post that didn’t post when I hit post. Rather than re-write everything, here’s a link to some info on carpet-off gassing. Get lots of fresh air until the nasty stuff blows off!
