With my wife being out of town for two weeks, my daughter and I are eating out more than we should.  I’ve been maintaining my weight, but, I’ve been eating no-no’s.  Tonight, we went to KFC and I had the Mashed Potato Bowl.  1100 calories of pure fat.  I guess that’s no different than having a Whopper or Big Mac…  Anyhow, I came home, and went for a 17 mile bike ride.  I’m tired now!

10 miles

19 07 2007

I did 10 miles today!  Felt good.  Weather was comfortable, sun was bright but not penetrating.  I feel that I’m going to be handle the 1/2 marathon coming up in a month.   Tomorrow, light run, and bike ride.

Good workout day

17 07 2007

I had a good workout day today.  7.5 mile run this morning.  Sand and paint the shed in the afternoon, and a 13 mile bike ride this evening.

BTW, Rebecca and I saw the doctor yesterday.  she basically said that they can’t think of anything else to do regarding Rebecca’s condition.  It does appear that the beta blockers that she started on seem to be lowering her average pulse.  that’s a good thing.

Tomorrow, we travel to Minneapolis (90 miles from Rochester) to see my mom.  She likes seeing Rebecca, me too, I suppose :)  So, I’ll probably get a light run in tomorrow evening when I get home.

I have recovered

15 07 2007

Well, it looks like I have recovered from the Marathon!!!  I feel like my old self again.  They did say it might take up to a month to recover.  “They” were right.  The marathon was on June 16, and it is July 15 today.

My wife is the pastor of our church, and she’s away for some continuing education courses.  We had a 20 year old from the congregation who just started seminary fill in.  Very strong sermon.  Very rough, but, with training, he will turn into a great leader.  He definitely has the call of God.

Last night after I went to bed, I had a craving for a Dairy Queen.  I’ve been avoiding Dairy Queen ever since I started my weight loss kick.  I’m going over for a small cone tonight.  Should taste good!  I’ve done a good job today avoiding the “nervous” eating.  Every time I felt that I needed to eat something, I had a glass of water instead.  Seems to work!

Well, I did go out and run afterall. I think I needed to. Today was the longest run I’ve done since the marathon. It’s the first time since the race that I’ve been able to run more than 4 miles without needing to walk. I feel much better mentally now, as well.

Rebecca’s been watching Sponge Bob all day. I’m getting tired of his laugh. It’s keeping Rebecca entertained. Her pulse is staying right around 90 today. that’s OK.

Later, friends!

Rebecca

14 07 2007

For those that don’t know, my 16 year old daughter suffers from a condition called POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome).  Basically, what it means is that she’s got an abnormally fast heart rate.  Then, at times, without warning, her autonomic nervous system realizes there’s a problem and tries to correct it by slowing her pulse down to less than 50 beats a minute.  this results in not enough blood getting to the brain, and ends up in a syncopic episode.

Well, we had another spell last night.  I was feeling good just getting off of work going into my vacation.  I walked in the door, Rebecca didn’t look too good.  She didn’t say anything, but I was just uncomfortable with the way she looked.  We decided to go out to dinner.  Just as we were getting in the car, she passed out again.  We brought her to the ER again.  they put two bags of fluid into her, and let her come home.  She’s resting today.  I’ve got a headache today.

Probably won’t work out today.  I may go out later. I’m doing tons of nervous eating today.  Not good :(

BTW, my wife just left this morning for two weeks away, so…
